Let’s face it, not all of us have a ‘special someone’, ‘significant other’ or a ‘better half’ by the time Valentine’s Day rolls around, but that doesn’t mean we should be completely alone this 14th February.
If only spending Cupid’s national holiday with your gals had a name of it’s own…
Oh wait, it does.
Galentine’s Day, originating from the queen Leslie Knope herself, is a true celebration of girl power and all of our beautiful friendships. In Parks and Recreation (one of the greatest TV shows ever made), Galentine’s Day actually takes place a day before the dreaded V day, but you can celebrate this should-be-national-holiday whenever you like. I don’t think there’s ever a bad time for a little women empowerment.
This is actually my first single Valentine’s Day in three years, so I am relying pretty heavily on my friends to make the day more bearable. I doubt I’ll be getting any flowers this year, and I definitely won’t be getting dressed up to go out for a fancy dinner, but it’s nice to know that I have some incredible girls that I can share the Valentine’s Day love with instead.
Whether you choose to watch a movie, grab some food or have an old fashioned sleepover – it’s important to spend some time with your gal pals this Valentine’s Day, whether you’re in a relationship or not. Your friends are the ones you turn to when things get tough, when boyfriends and girlfriends come and go, they’ll always be there. So surely there’s nothing better than a whole day dedicated to giving your besties some love?
Make sure you tell your gals how much they mean to you this Valentine’s Day and remember, in the wise words of Leslie Knope, ovaries before brovaries.
